This Saturday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day. It is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard). Starting in 1978 after President Gerald R. Ford signed Public Law 94-97, which returned Veterans Day to its original date of November 11th (in 1971, Veterans Day was celebrated in October). And it continues to be celebrated on this date no matter what day of the week it falls onto. The observance of Veterans Day helps focus attention on the important purpose: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
The Township of Springfield will be having an observance ceremony. Residents are encouraged to come out and thank our veterans for the sacrifices they have made and the dedication they have shown to defending our country. This ceremony will also honor those we have lost. The ceremony will be Saturday (November 11th) starting at 11 a.m. and be held at Veterans Memorial Park. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the auditorium of Jonathan Dayton High School.
Please remember that Townhall will also be closed this Friday in observance of the holiday.
And just like last year, Townhall is currently illuminated with green lights as a part of Operation Green Light. The lights are up to honor our veterans.
