The Township of Springfield has recently added another social media account to its roster to share updates with residents. However, do not forget that announcements can also be seen on the electric sign that sits on Town Hall’s front lawn.
The sign has been with the Township for 8 years; donated back in June of 2014 by the Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce, as can be seen on the plaque on the right side of the sign (pictured below). This came 4 years after the Chamber donated the Town clock that was added to Patriot Park.
“We thought it would be a great way for the Township to promote its events. The Chamber would be able to promote their events on it, like the street fair. – All these different events could be easily put on it and you could do more than one at a time because you can rotate it.”

The Chamber of Commerce felt that the Township would benefit greatly from an electric sign rather than the old-fashioned sign with changeable letters. Those types of signs need 2 people to change it; one holds it open while the other person puts the letters up. An electric sign allows multiple announcements to be seen instead of just one. Announcements like committee meetings, town events, recreational sports, or fun holiday graphics.
Currently the sign is announcing the plastic bag ban in recycling cans, the Township Committee Workshop Meeting this week, and multiple recreational sports. It continues to be a great asset to the Township.
