A new mayor was sworn in during Sunday’s (January 1st) night’s Township Reorganization meeting. The meeting started off with the Posting of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance, led by Gerry McManus; Commander of American Legion Post #228. Then attendees were treated to a performance of God Bless America by Ernie DellaSala on the saxophone.
Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi presented the Certificates of Election to Committeeman Richard Huber and Committeewoman Erica DuBois. Both were accompanied by their families as they took the oath of office.

Then the Township Committee nominated Chris Capodice to serve as mayor for this year. He has succeeded Alex Keiser, who will now serve as deputy mayor for 2023. Mayor Capodice has been on the Springfield Township Committee since 2018 and previously served as mayor in 2020. He was also accompanied by his family and was sworn in by his father and former mayor of Union, Peter Capodice.

I am excited to begin the year 2023 and further propel the Township of Springfield to be at the forefront of inclusion, progress, and vitality. Springfield deserves the very best of what I have to offer, and I promise to give you my very best.”
