This morning the Township of Springfield held a ceremony for the 22nd Anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The ceremony was held in front of Townhall where Committeeman Richard Huber proclaimed September 11th, 2023 to be Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.
“In observance of the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th attacks on America which killed citizens from 92 different countries and more particularly Township residents Lee Adler and JoAnn Hiltebridle, we hereby pay tribute to those lost and injured on 9/11, and the many who gave of themselves in service to their communities and to this country.”

Officers from the Springfield Police and Fire Department, First Aid Squad, and OEM lined up at the flag in front of Townhall. Before the ceremony began the bell was rung 5 times to symbolize the North Tower being struck. Moments of silence followed before the bell was rung a second time to symbolize the South Tower being struck. The ceremony was then moved to Patriot Park, where a wreath was placed to honor Springfield residents, Lee Adler and JoAnn Hiltebridle, who lost their lives on 9/11. Lee Adler’s mother; Isabell Adler (pictured below), along with Aaron Adler (brother), Leslie Adler (sister-in-law, and Sarah Adler (niece) were all in attendance. Committeeman Richard Huber closed the ceremony with a few emotional words.
“It’s a hard day for a lot of people. – Thank you all for coming, I do appreciate it. I know they appreciate it.”
