It’s summertime in Springfield and that means it’s time for outdoor events and activities. Some wonderful events have taken place this summer and many are still to come.
Recently the Township of Springfield held its annual July 4th celebration, where over 4,000 people attended to enjoy free rides, a petting zoo, and specialty food from 10 different food trucks. Attendees enjoyed lobster rolls, empanadas, rice balls, funnel cakes, also the typical hot dogs, hamburgers, and ice cream. There was also live music from the bands Twice Heard and The 1910 Fruitgum Company. The event was held at Meisel Field as it is every year and it ended with a big fireworks display at around 9pm.
Now next week the Springfield BID is sponsoring/hosting a summer concert series. The first concert will be on Thursday, July 28th from 6pm to 8pm. Local band Distortion will be performing on the Town Hall Lawn. There will be free ice cream provided by Scream Truck. Residents are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. The next concert will be in a few weeks on August 25th, more information and reminders will be posted closer to that date.
The next big event will be Springfield’s National Night Out which will be held on August 2nd, starting at 6pm at Jonathan Dayton High School parking lot. The event is a community building campaign for residents to get out and meet the Springfield Police and Fire Department and is free to attend. Residents will also get the chance to explore the Police, Fire, EMS, OEM, and DPW vehicles. There will be food trucks and live music from band Twice Heard, who played at the July 4th celebration. There will also be a lot of entertainment for the kids, including an inflatable kid zone, obstacle course and a bounce house.
Hope to see everyone at these events. Enjoy your summer, stay cool and hydrated!
