The Springfield Senior Citizens Club has been held at the Chisholm Center for many years. The club’s purpose is for residents to spend time together socially and get outside. The club has various activities to offer residents, such as:
- Pickleball, dominos, bingo, and other games held at the center.
- Bus trips to restaurants, shopping centers, or farmers markets.
- Shape Up with Liz (an exercise class held every Tuesday).
- Movie days (which will start in January).
- Luncheons, sometimes with live entertainment.
Program Coordinator Ilene Wilkenfeld does a lot of planning in order to make these activities/trips happen. Firstly, the Chisholm Center’s calendar must be checked to see when the event can and will take place. Then if it’s a trip to another location, the hours of the location have to be known. A flyer and sign up sheet has to be made. Sometimes the locations have to be notified of how many people are attending. Then the bus schedule has to be made for those club members who don’t drive. If the event is being held at the center, like pickleball, everything has to be set up, schedule has to be made, water has to be put out, and then everything is taken down when it’s over.
“ The biggest thing they really love to do is to gather together to be social – to be able to get together and watch a movie or set up games – they like to be with people.”
Ilene Wilkenfeld, Recreation Program Coordinator
This upcoming January on the 27th the club will have their monthly meeting which will feature a presentation of the Township’s website. The presentation is for members to familiarize themselves with the website and learn all it has to offer the residents of Springfield. Public Information Officer Tamara Vega will display the site to the members, show how to navigate it, and answer any questions.
