On a sunny and warm afternoon, the Township of Springfield kicked off Pride Month with a celebratory event outside the Chisholm Community Center on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The 5th annual program included a rainbow flag raising; DJ music by Summit Soundz; informational tables and treats by Halo Roasters, Elvira Chaush New York Life Insurance, WellCare, Planned Parenthood, Springfield Unity Project, and Union County Office of LGBTQ Affairs; Star Spangled Banner sung by Liz Diaz; performances by Front & Center for Performing Arts and Jonathan Dayton High School All Stars and Advanced Dance; greetings by Mayor Christopher Capodice; remarks by Union County Commissioner Rebecca Williams, Director of Recreation Adam Lieb, and Assistant Director of Recreation Brendan O’Reilly; Safe Place announcement by Police Chief John Cook; children’s crafts; rainbow ice pops; and Pride give-aways.
