On Thursday, February 24, 2022, senior citizens from Springfield congregated at the Chisholm Community Center for the annual Black History Month celebration and luncheon, co-sponsored by the Springfield Recreation Department and the Springfield Senior Citizens Club.
The event featured a welcome by Sherri Franklin; pledge of allegiance by Springfield Senior Citizens Club Co-President Sandy Tasch; prayer by Springfield Senior Citizens Club Co-President Margaret Bandrowski; musical video of “Lift Every Voice and Sing;” storytelling presentation by Shirley Johnson and Vicki Bryan; honoring of hometown hero Lawrence Burns; and blessings by Synthia James. Mayor Alex Keiser and Municipal Clerk Linda Donnelly were in attendance to read the Township’s proclamation of Black History Month.
Lunch was catered by Boston Market of Union.
