Last month Springfield Police Chief John Cook and Captain Jon Rachel presented several medals to members of the Police Department during the Township Committee meeting held on October 11th.
“Our officers are doing great things everyday and once in a while we come across exceptional instances where we feel it’s more than just a performance notice, it’s something we want to acknowledge publicly.”

The officers were called up one by one and a brief description of their actions was read aloud by Chief Cook. Each member was given a certificate and a medal by Captain Rachel.
Detective Lieutenant James Mirabile, Lieutenant Ryan Westover, Sergeant Marcos Vaz, Sergeant Ercan Sidar, and Officers Joseph Leniart, Robert Quinlan, Emmett Badai, Matthew Nolan, Hope Arthur, Matthew Negron, Brandon Manresa, and Auxiliary Officer Frank Applegate were all awarded for their actions during Hurricane Ida. For going above and beyond with water rescues of those stranded in their vehicles during the storm, and performing traffic operations with strong currents and rising water levels. Detective Lieutenant James Mirabelle and Lieutenant Ryan Westover established the Chisholm Community Center as a temporary shelter for residents who were rescued from the flooding and those displaced from their homes.
Sergeant Keith Christopher, Officers John Patrick, Joel Lopez, Stephen Bratsch, Brian Trotman, Michelle DiParisi, Investigator Luis Brito, Detective Foster Ziegler, and Corporal Danielle Kahora were also honored that night for their service and actions.
