During last night’s Township Committee meeting, Mayor Capodice proclaimed that Emergency Medical Services week would be this week; May 21st to May 27th. Emergency physicians, nurses, medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators all make up emergency medical services. During this week, residents are encouraged to celebrate and support their efforts. Members of emergency medical services teams put in thousands of hours of specialized training and education to enhance their life saving skills. This also includes our Springfield First Aid Squad.
The Springfield First Aid Squad was established on March 18, 1949 and has since been providing Emergency Medical Services to the residents of Springfield. Next year will be their 75th anniversary! The squad is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization separate from the Township of Springfield, and relies on donations from residents and businesses. For more information residents can check out their website, https://www.springfieldfas.org/
“I’ve seen what you do in action and you’re second to none. Thank you all for your service. Not only thanks to you but thanks to your families for allowing you to give up some family time to go out and help other people. I have some of the greatest respect for people that when everybody’s running away from the problem, you’re running towards people to help. And we appreciate it, thank you.”
Mayor Chris Capodice
Also as part of EMS Week; Emergency Medical Services for Children Day is today, May 24th. The goal is to help states and communities prepare for a medical/traumatic emergency involving a child through the provision of properly trained emergency personnel, sufficiently equipped ambulances, pediatric-ready emergency departments and well-defined pediatric treatment protocols and procedures.
Residents are urged to celebrate our Springfield First Aid Squad and everyone in emergency medical services who work tirelessly to improve the quality of medical care.
