Good morning Springfield,
Meisel Ave Field has become the exercise and recreation park for so many in the surrounding areas. The past few years have seen the completion of a new Turf Field, Running Track, Basketball Courts and Baseball Fields. Many different sporting teams and clubs use this park daily. This is in addition to people just wanting to get their daily exercise and walking the track or park paths. We welcome everyone and are beyond pleased that the park is being enjoyed by so many.
We are excited to bring everyone some great news. After talks with Union County, they have agreed to place several items into their parks and recreation budget for the 2022 year.
1. Full lighting around the Field. Currently everyone relies on generator operated lights surrounding the field. This has proven difficult and time consuming for all. Permanent lighting is what is needed to bring this park to the next level.
2. The driveway and parking lot will be paved in a permeable blacktop that will allow water drainage, but it will be strong and smooth and capable to handle many years of driving. The current gravel will be fixed to hold us over until the blacktop is done.
3. We are still discussing all options for street lighting. There are a few more factors and participants involved in this one and will take a little more time for a solution.
The Township of Springfield thanks the Commissioners of Union County for placing these much needed items into their parks and recreation budget for 2022. It is greatly appreciated.
Have a great day,
Mayor Chris Weber
