The Building Department is in the process of sending letters to homeowners with open permits requesting you call to schedule inspections. A few things to note, permits stay with the property not the owner; final inspection are the property owner’s responsibility. Part of the permit fee is for the inspections, there isn’t an additional fee for final inspections. When a property is sold in Springfield, part of the townships requirements is that all open permits have final inspections prior to closing.
Property owners may ask why now? Open permits are reviewed and followed up on by the staff throughout the year. Every permit that is issued has ‘A final inspection is required for each applicable subcode’ on the paperwork given to the owner or contractor.
