Elks has designated the first week of May (May 1st-7th) as Youth Week to honor America’s Junior Citizens for their accomplishments, and to give recognition of their services to the community. Springfield Hillside Elks Lodge #2004 will be sponsoring an observance that week in tribute to the Junior Citizens of Springfield.
During Tuesday’s Township Committee meeting Mayor Capodice presented the proclamation to Trustee Geri Ann Kazimar.
The Springfield Elks #2004 has multiple youth programs including:
-
The Elks Hoop Shoot; a free throw program for youth ages 8-13
-
Elks National Drug Awareness Program
-
Elks National Scholarship Programs. The Elks are the 2nd largest giver of scholarships in the nation under the federal government.
-
Elks Camp Moore, a camp for children with special needs. Elks #2004 will be sponsoring a week vacation for 3 kids to visit Elks Camp Moore.
After being presented the proclamation Geri also spoke a bit about Memorial Day, which is just a month away.
“We invite everybody to come out. It’s a wonderful day to honor our veterans and we hope to see everybody there.”
-Geri Ann Kazimar
There will be a parade to celebrate Memorial Day, the ceremony will start at 10am at Veterans Park. Kazimar also made a note to ask if any organization would like to provide a float, it would be greatly appreciated. The Elks will be providing hot dogs and water at the end of the parade route. More information to come.
“The work that you do for Memorial Day is just absolutely outstanding and please continue the good work and know that you have our complete support.”
Mayor Chris Capodice
