Back in March, Erica DuBois announced her resignation during the committee meeting. She started off by thanking all the first responders who had participated in the Benefit Basketball Game: Teachers vs First Responders. She thanked everyone who had a hand in putting the event together and for taking the time to bring joy to the kids. Then she tearfully announced that she had chosen to step away from her role as committeewoman to pursue a new opportunity.
“Recently, it’s come to my attention that there are some opportunities out there that I think could fit my skill set and my knowledge – However, to consider even looking into them, I have to do the right thing and step away from this role. – I’m grateful to the team around me, also the department heads who I’ve worked with closely for the last 6 and a half years. – This decision wasn’t easy but I know it’s the right decision.”
She has been on the Township Committee for more than 6 years and served as mayor in 2019, one of the three female mayors in the Township’s history.
Thank you Erica for all the great work you’ve done in the Township. The best of luck in your future endeavors.
To fill the vacancy, the Springfield Municipal Democratic Party submitted a list of nominees to the Township Committee for consideration. Harris Laufer was chosen from the list and was sworn in as Committeeman during Tuesday night’s Township Committee meeting. He was accompanied by his parents; Judith Pearl and Aron Laufer, and sworn in by New Jersey Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari.
“I had the opportunity to meet Harris Laufer at his doorstep approximately 5 years ago – he turned out to be an outstanding legislative aid and policy director. – Congratulations. Certainly a well deserved honor and privilege to be able to serve the public. You’ve seen that from a staffer level now and you get to be a decision maker not that you weren’t before.
-New Jersey Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari
Laufer is a 2013 Jonathan Dayton High School graduate, a Rutgers graduate, and currently works as an aid for Senate President Scutari.
“I want to thank my parents for everything. You guys have been incredible systems of support and I appreciate everything that you guys have done for me. I want to thank everyone on this dais. I, very much look forward to working with all of you. Third, I want to thank Senate President Scutari for swearing me in. I will work my hardest for the Township of Springfield-I want to be a partner in making this town a better place.”
-Committeeman Harris Laufer
Congratulations Harris on your new position in our Township.
