During Tuesday night’s Township Committee meeting, Mayor Keiser proclaimed that Emergency Medical Services week would be May 15th to May 21st. Emergency physicians, nurses, medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators all make up emergency medical services. During this week, residents are encouraged to celebrate and support their efforts. Members of emergency medical services teams put in thousands of hours of specialized training and education to enhance their life saving skills. This also includes our Springfield First Aid Squad.
“Our town could not run without our volunteer first aid squad-we acknowledge them during their special week.”
-Mayor Keiser
The Springfield First Aid Squad was established on March 18, 1949 and has since been providing Emergency Medical Services to the residents of Springfield. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization separate from the Township of Springfield, and relies on donations from residents and businesses. The squad is made up of volunteers who are interested in helping better the community. No experience is needed to volunteer and the squad provides all the necessary training. For more information residents can check out their website, https://www.springfieldfas.org/
“We have the most excellent people that volunteer; really care about the community. They’re always here supporting everybody.”
-Chief John Cook
Also as part of EMS Week; Emergency Medical Services for Children Day is on May 18th. Emergency Medical Services for Children assists in the development of training programs and guidelines for emergency care providers so that children with special health care needs receive timely, appropriate care. Residents are urged to celebrate those who tirelessly work to improve the quality of pediatric medical care and familiarize themselves with EMSC and its programs.
