A proclamation is a public or official announcement, especially one dealing with a matter of great importance. Tuesday night’s Township Committee meeting had many things to announce. Four separate proclamations were made to celebrate and acknowledge the amazing work of the following organizations and individuals.
Girl Scouts 110th Anniversary
This past March 12th marked the 110th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Since the beginning Girl Scouts have emphasized public service and civic engagement, and have fostered a sense of community in girls. Through the programs Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities work together to build a better world by developing their talent and skills. The proclamation congratulates them on their anniversary and was presented to Kristy Barone; Service Unit Manager, and Alexa Klein; Leader of Troop 41300.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month
This proclamation was presented to Gretchen Boger-O’Bryan; CASA Director of Communications and Development. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is an organization which advocates for abused, neglected and abandoned children placed in foster homes or residential facilities. Volunteers are trained to serve the child and make sure their needs are being represented and discussed in court. Currently Springfield Townhall has blue flags planted out front for Flags For Foster Youth. Residents can read more about it in our previous post or on the CASA site.
“Springfield is happy to highlight the tireless work that CASA of Union County undertakes everyday to support our children. Flags 4 Foster Youth is one small action that hopefully brings much needed attention and greater community support.”
-Mayor Alexander Keiser
Elks Youth Week
Elks has designated the first week of May (May 1st-7th) as Youth Week to honor America’s Junior Citizens for their accomplishments, and to give recognition of their services to the community. Springfield Hillside Elks Lodge #2004 will be sponsoring an observance that week in tribute to the Junior Citizens of Springfield.
The proclamation was presented to Trustee Barabara Brennan.
51st Anniversary of Municipal Clerks Week
The week of May 1st to May 7th is Municipal Clerks Week, this year will be the 51st anniversary. The office of the Municipal Clerk is the oldest among public servants and provides the professional link between the citizens and the local governing bodies. This proclamation was presented to our own township clerk; Linda Donnelly.
“Linda works tirelessly every single day on behalf of the township, making sure that we are prepared to do our jobs. So without you Linda we would be lost.”
-Mayor Alexander Keiser
