On Tuesday night (March 8th) the Township of Springfield held a flag raising ceremony to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine during this difficult time.
The cold weather didn’t stop many Springfield residents from being in attendance at the ceremony to show their support holding flags and signs with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
Speakers at the event included Mayor Alex Keiser, Deputy Mayor Chris Weber, member of NJ Senate John Bramnick, Union County Commissioner Betty Jane Kowalski, Union County Clerk Joanna Rajoppi, and Yuriy Symczyk; COO and National Secretary at Ukrainian National Association.
“Ukrainains globally condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The full scale military invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces that began on February 24th is an effort to permanently destroy the territorial integrity of an independent Ukraine.”
Yuriy Symczyk, reading statement from the Ukrainian National Association
The Ukrainian flag put on the town’s flagpole was graciously donated by Roman Myhal.
Springfield Town Hall is also now lit at night with blue and yellow lights.
