Good afternoon Springfield,
We have been throughout the streets and numerous buildings for the past 24 hours. Springfield has experienced extensive damage on all fronts. Besides the countless number of homes that have been flooded and have extreme damage, several of our Township buildings are out of commission. Our DPW building, the Library, the First Aid Squad, the Townhall basement, and the Annex basement have all been damaged due to Tropical Storm Ida.
Our Townhall is open to the public and is fully operational.
Our Fire Department is closely working with the Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Springfield First Aid Squad, to complete all evacuations. The Fire Department will be assisting residents with basements that need pumping out. If you are able to have an outside company handle it, that may be a quicker method. The waiting list of homes that need assistance are too many at this point. If there is no other alternative, please call the Springfield Fire Department at (973) 912-2265, to be placed on the list.
Effective immediately, please place all damaged items and materials at the curb. We will be
scheduling a bulk pickup in the next week. Confirmation of the date will be announced when we are able to secure it.
The Township Committee and myself will continue to cover the areas throughout the town. We are accessible and will try to get to everyone who requests us to stop by their home.
Please be alert and be safe.
Mayor Chris Weber
