    The Latest From the Administrator

Updates from the Township Committee Meeting held on July 15th.

    DPW

    • Recycling Update
      • The new 2025 Recycling Schedule is up on the website now.
      • Plastics bags are not permitted in recycling cans. Cans with plastic bags will not be picked up. The reason being; the recycling gets put on a belt and goes through a machine but the plastic bags get caught in the machine and then have to be manually removed by someone.
      • Please put recycling out in a can with a lid to prevent it from blowing away.
    • Vegetated Waste is no longer being collected
      • Residents can utilize the drop off at the recycling center located at 44 Morrison.
    • Pumping Stations:
      • The Pumps for the Johanna Way Storm Station were delivered on June 26 and stored on site while the project moves along.
      • We also received the pumps for Marion Ave Storm station that are being stored in DPW until renovations begin next year.
    • Line Striping:
      • Over the summer DPW will begin stripping major Intersections, crosswalks and all school zones where there’s a crossing guard post to establish clear guidance for pedestrians.
      • Stripping will continue into various areas once the priority sections are completed.
    • Crosswalk Signage for Evergreen & So. Springfield and Wabeno & Meisel were ordered and expected to be up and running in a few weeks.
    Other Updates

    • Caldwell Culvert Replacement
      • Union County is scheduled to replace the culvert just outside Ruby Park. The project involves the removal of the existing culvert and replaced with a new precast culvert.
      • Prior to the Union County’s project American Water needs to relocate the water main which is in the footprint of the County’s project.
      • Both projects entail possible hard road closures up to three weeks.
      • Learning of this project, the Township immediately called for a pre-construction meeting with American Water and Union County for details on scheduling, road closures etc. We will bring more information following each meeting.
      • American Water Pre-Con meeting, Thursday July 17 at 9:am at 20 North Trivett
      • Union County Pre-Con meeting July 22, at 10:30 at 2335 South Ave Scotch Plains
