The Township Committee, the Environmental Commission, the Board of Education, the Springfield Garden Club, the Springfield Historical Society, business owners and concerned citizens have come together to support the Greening of Springfield initiative.
Greening Springfield was officially established in 2009 when Springfield registered with Sustainable Jersey as Springfield Green Team (SGT).
The Green Team are volunteers that work closely with Springfield Environmental Commission, Department of Public Works (DPW) and The Township’s government to maintain and implement environmentally sustainable practices. The program is intended to make Springfield a more sustainable community which can be achieved through various actions from Sustainable Jersey (SJ) aimed to preserve our environment and enhance our quality of life.
In 2014 The Land Conservancy of New Jersey was hired to work towards The Township’s certification with Ms. Kathleen Caccavale, their Planning Consultant. Certifications can be found on the SJ Map. In 2015 Springfield obtained the Bronze Certification!
In 2018 Springfield was re-certified by Sustainable Jersey due to the work of community volunteers that assist with the implementation of the SJ Actions.
Presently, SGT is working towards 2021 re-certification in close collaboration with Township of Springfield. Our new representative is Robert Brennan, Assistant Foreman from Department of Public Works (DPW).
