Message to Our Community About Data Security Incident

The Township of Springfield recently identified suspicious activity on our Police Department management server, which may have potentially exposed some personal information of certain Township residents or visitors. Once we learned of this incident, we took immediate action including initiating an internal investigation and IT remediation, engaging external forensic IT experts to assist in our investigation and notified law enforcement, who are conducting an active investigation into the matter. It is important to note that, at this time, we have no indication that any personal information has been viewed or used inappropriately. We are providing this notice to make all potentially affected individuals aware of the incident and provide information on steps they can take to help protect themselves.
We value and respect the privacy of our residents and visitors and deeply regret any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.

We are providing additional information on steps consumers can take to help protect themselves, including:

  • A detailed Impacted Individual Notice that explains what happened, describes the actions we’ve taken, and provides information and resources to anyone who may have been affected.
  • A Frequently Asked Questions outline, delivering additional information that we anticipate community members may want or need.
  • Access to a Toll-Free Call Center, with operators available to address questions and concerns about this incident. You can reach this call center by dialing 855-361-3678 Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 A.M. to 9 P.M. EST.

In addition to the steps immediately taken in response to this event, the Township remains vigilant in its efforts to protect confidential information of its citizens and visitors and has already implemented additional safeguards to help prevent additional cyber-attacks.
