Anonymous Tips
The Springfield Police Department encourages residents to report suspicious activity or criminal information anonymously. Tips can be submitted directly to the Detective Bureau and will be reviewed by investigators. All information is kept strictly confidential.

Firearms
Springfield residents may apply for a Firearms Identification Card and Permit to Purchase through the NJ State Police online portal at njportal.com/njsp/FARS (ORI: NJ0201700). Applications require a background investigation, fingerprints, personal references, and a mental health records check. Please allow 12–14 weeks for processing. Contact the Records Bureau at (973) 912-2239 with any questions.

Safe Place Initiative
The Springfield Police Department participates in the Safe Place Program, partnering with local businesses to provide safe locations for victims of bias and hate crimes. Participating businesses display a rainbow police badge decal and are trained to call 911 and shelter victims until officers arrive. Businesses interested in joining the program can contact Detective Lieutenant James Mirabile at james.mirabile@springfield-nj.us. Victims of bias or hate crimes can report incidents by calling 911, approaching an officer, or entering any designated Safe Place location.

Fingerprints
The Springfield Police Department offers fingerprinting services for residents requiring prints for employment, licensing, or personal background purposes.

Project Medicine Drop
The Springfield Police Department participates in New Jersey's Project Medicine Drop program, offering a 24/7 anonymous drop box in the lobby of police headquarters at 100 Mountain Avenue for safe disposal of unused, excess, or expired prescription medications. Pills, capsules, patches, and pet medications are accepted — no liquids in open containers, mail, trash, or syringes. A mobile drop box is also available for community events throughout the township. Special Take-Back Days are announced on the Township website.
