January 2017 Coastal Storm Notice #2

Office of Emergency Management Meeting held January 23, 2017

An Office of Emergency meeting was held this morning with various public safety departments to review preparations for the Coastal Storm forecast.

  • The Department of Public Works reported that all 6 pump stations have been checked, backup generators have been topped off with fuel, all flap gates have been cleared, all waterways have been walked and cleared, flood prone areas have had their catchbasins being cleaned and all equipment has been checked.
  • The Fire Department reported that their water pumps have been tested and fueled, gas cans are all topped off, and the boats are ready. The EOC & FD generator has been checked and topped off.
  • The Police Department reported that their trailers are stocked up with barricades. The HMMWV (Humvee) was tested, generators have been topped off, and the portable stop signs are loaded.
  • Union County remains under a wind advisory until 1 a.m. Tuesday and a flood watch from 1 p.m. Monday through the late tonight. Rainfall amounts around 2 inches along with 20 to 30 mph winds are expected. This forecast can result in local flooding, downed limbs, trees, and power lines – power outages can be expected.
