January 2017 Coastal Storm Notice #1

The US National Weather Service New York NY has issued several hazardous weather notices for our region. The forecast for Union County should be taken very seriously – a wind advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday and a flood watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through late Monday night. Union County is expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of rain with high wind gusts starting around 7 a.m. Monday into Tuesday. This amount of rain in such a short amount of time, especially for Springfield, will likely result in flooding. NEVER drive through flooded roadways – stop and turn around, especially if the road is blocked by barriers. Don’t jeopardize your life or the life of emergency responders. Additionally, wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected. This can result in downed limbs, trees, and power lines – power outages can be expected. The Springfield Office of Emergency Management is monitoring the situation and updates will be provided as available.
